I’m still getting used to life without Instagram. Here’s my effort at a scenic video check in without all the ig magic! I’m here in DC this weekend through Tuesday, mostly for Breast Cancer Advocacy and a lobby day with the NBCC, but while I’ve been planning this trip for six months, for the last half of that time my heart has been hoping that I’d get a chance to be a part of a local grassroots protest. I found one led by a bunch of sweet sweet younger folk from all over the country who are planning to camp out on the national mall until Trump goes away. They are already super connected to the local struggle, so we marched from the Smithsonian Institute on the mall to a place just behind the White House called Liberty Plaza, where we joined a group of federal workers picketing with their union reps. It was exactly what I needed. They gave me such hope!!!
Now I can get back to breast cancer business. The National Breast Cancer Coalition’s summit started tonight with lots of reunion hugs among advocate comrades and a panel on the latest science on the determinants of health, aka, why some women get breast cancer/get it younger or more aggressively, when others of us don’t. The big new reveals were studies on binge drinking, chemical hair products and sedentary childhoods. So fascinating!!! It’s all correlation of course, but still very legit. I was so happy that the panelists addressed the elephants in the room—their canceled trials that were meant to start this year—one on exercise oncology….. Heartbreaking, but good to share the sorrow with them at least.
Today was a day of solidarity.
P.S. No podcast tomorrow, but listen to my recent guest appearance on Kat Calvin’s podcast called Choose the Bear!
